Commission Junction decided to raise its minimum payout to 50 U.S. dollars for direct deposits and 100 dollars for paper checks. Newbies and small affiliates might get a little upset. But fair enough, that increases the company’s efficiency and reduces unnecessary expenses. Actually they should get rid of paper checks completely.

What I don’t like about CJ’s payment policy is that they pay slowly. Many affiliates receive their payouts not before 20 days after the end of the month. Professional affiliates are usually liquid enough to cover that period. But beginners in affiliate marketing should join other networks perhaps.

ebay decided to leave affiliate networks and start their own in-house affiliate network. Today they announced to leave Commission Junction. I would say that’s a big hit for CJ. I wonder how German Affilinet will deal with this as ebay is a major income source for Affilinet.

I have to say that ebay’s move makes perfect sense. The company is capable enough to run a tracking system on their own and adapt it to the needs of their affiliates. Here are some examples of the advantages of their in-house system:

Easy global registration to multiple countries simultaneously

New, targeted banners and rich media creatives

New landing page optimization and geo-targeting capabilities

More detailed reporting capabilities for eBay’s programs

With their so-called Cross-Account Correlation Commission Junction finally allows international advertisers to connect their different affiliate programs. In a pilot program selected advertisers are able to track all transactions from all of their programs no matter which program the affiliate is registered in.

Example: An online bookstore launches a separate affiliate program for every country or site with CJ. Usually an affiliate of the U.S. program would only get credit for transactions on the U.S. bookstore because he used the U.S. tracking code. Now he can only profit from customers purchasing in the UK shop. Everything will be tracked and commissioned.

More information is available at Commission Junction’s website.

Commission Junction EPC
