Amazon Patents Redirect and 404 Error Pages

Amazon’s subsidiary A9.com filed a patent regarding “Error processing methods for providing responsive content to a user when a page load error occurs.“. No, this didn’t happen in 1996, it happened in 2008. Hm, maybe I’m getting something wrong here but I’d been thinking that you can’t patent something that’s already been used by many people.
